  1. Bring your instrument, and be sure it is in good playing condition.

  2. Bring your music. Remember to e-mail me a .pdf of any new music that you want to perform for me if I don’t have a copy of it already. Check your e-mail for .pdf files, links to free music downloads, or links to music books that I may ask you to purchase from the music store.

  3. Bring a sharpened pencil with an eraser.

  4. Bring your flute notebook or practice journal. Write down your weekly assignments in it, and keep a record of all of your lessons, performances, and daily practice sessions. Feel free to personalize your flute notebook with your own artwork, stickers, doodles, quotations, motivational slogans, and notes.

  5. Make sure you have a chair and a music stand. Set up your stand so that I can see you and your instrument.

  6. Bring your metronome or use a metronome app on a smart phone. There is a free metronome available on www.flutetunes.com.

  7. Make sure you have your computer or tablet set up in a quiet environment that is free from interruptions and distractions.

  8. Have a growth mindset. Be ready to learn and have fun!
